Talk it Out

For most of us when we say something out-loud, we are in some way committing to it. Coaching, for those being coached, is a process of talking it out, collaborating on a hypothesis, creating strategies for success, and experimenting with the implementation of those strategies. To engage in this process effectively, you must be honest, self-reflective and open-minded. Knowing that your coach is there as an unbiased sounding board for your aspirations and ideas is intended to create transparency and trust.

We all visualize in different ways. For some we experiment with our ambitions by saying them to others, for others writing things down or creating vision (or Pinterest!) boards are our ways of committing to our ambitions. Make it a practice to experiment with new methods of expressing your aspirations. Writing a daily journal, saving an inspiring quote from Instagram, or writing yourself a quick note in your phone are all small visualization steps to achieving your big goals. As a Career Coach, I want to know what those goals are! I also want to know who YOU are. What’s the background driving those goals?

Whichever method feels most relevant to you, express that! Be genuine to who you are first and foremost. In coaching, you may be challenged to experiment with methodologies to reach new objectives or challenge your thought process, but initially starting with a method that feels natural to you helps to establish a baseline. Taking the first step to commit to engaging in coaching can lead to many exciting objectives along your career path. Make your first objective be- talking it out!
